# What to say on your first paid call (a simple script)

[Guide](https://paidchatplatform.com/blog/topic/guide/) By the PaidChatPlatform team October 16, 2026 6 min read

On your first paid call, say the caller's name, thank them, and ask in the first minute what they would like from the call. Then deliver one concrete thing quickly, check in on time now and then, and end with a short summary and one next step. That's the whole script. Below it is written out word for word, with versions for video, voice and chat.

Key takeaways
- Greet the caller by name and ask what they want from the call within the first minute.
- Deliver one concrete thing early — then go deeper if they want to.
- Name the time out loud; fans pay per started 15 seconds and like knowing they're in control.
- End with a summary, one next step and an invitation to heart your page.

## Why use a script at all?

Because the first minute is when most nerves happen — on both sides. The caller wonders whether they are wasting your time; you wonder whether you'll be worth the price. A simple structure removes that worry. You don't read it aloud like a robot; you use it like a handrail. After ten calls you won't need it.

A paid call is also different from a free chat in one way: the caller is paying for the time. On hello.fan they pay per started 15 seconds, and only while you're both connected — ringing is free. Being clear and useful from the first sentence respects that.

## What should you do in the two minutes before the call?

- **Light in front of you** — face a window or a lamp, not away from it.

- **Earphones with a microphone** — clearer sound, no echo.

- **Water and a notepad** within reach.

- **A quiet room** and notifications muted on everything except the call.

- **Optional:** a camera filter. hello.fan has 21 free ones if a softer look helps you feel at ease.

## What is the script, minute by minute?

| Phase | Goal | What to say |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Opening (first 20 seconds) | Make them feel welcome | "Hi Maya! Thanks so much for calling — how are you?" |
| The question (by minute one) | Find out what they want | "What would make this call really useful for you today?" |
| Quick win (minutes 1–3) | Deliver something concrete | "Okay, first thing I'd change is…" |
| Going deeper | Follow their lead | "Do you want to try it now, or should I explain the why?" |
| Time check | Keep them in control | "We're at about ten minutes — happy to keep going or wrap up, your call." |
| Ending | Make it feel complete | "So: one, two, three. Next time, let's start from number three." |

### The opening

Use their name — it shows on your screen. Smile before you speak; people hear it, even on a voice call. Keep small talk short: one question, one answer. If it's their first paid call ever, say so kindly: "First time calling someone here? Perfect, we'll keep it easy."

### The first-minute question

This is the most important sentence of the call. Some versions:

- "What would you like to get out of these few minutes?"

- "Is there one thing you'd like help with, or do you just want to chat?"

- "What made you call today?"

"Just to chat" is a perfectly good answer. Plenty of fans simply want a few minutes with someone they follow. Then your job is to be warm, curious and present — ask about them, answer what they ask, share a small story.

### The quick win

Give something useful in the first three minutes: a correction, a tip, an honest opinion, a song request played, a question answered properly. A call that delivers early relaxes everyone and usually lasts longer.

### The time check

Mention the time once, calmly, after the first stretch. It feels counter-intuitive, but callers who feel in control of the clock stay longer and come back more often. Never rush someone; never stretch a call that's done.

### The ending

Summarise in one or two lines, give one next step, and thank them. Then the most valuable sentence for your future: "If you want to know when I'm online again, tap the heart on my page — you'll get an alert."

## How does the script change for voice and chat?

- **Voice:** the same script, with a little more warmth in your voice — there's no smile to see. Say what you're doing during pauses: "Give me a second, I'm writing that down."

- **Chat:** short messages, one idea each. Answer the first message within seconds so the caller knows you're there. On hello.fan chat translates itself, so a caller writing in another language reads you in theirs.

## What if the caller is quiet or nervous?

Lead a little more. Offer two options instead of an open question: "Do you want to start with your question, or should I tell you a bit about how I usually do these?" Fill silences with a light, specific question, not with a speech.

## What if they speak another language?

Switch on live translated subtitles. In a video or voice call either person can turn them on and read the other in their own language, in 30 languages. Speak in full sentences and pause briefly between ideas — subtitles appear phrase by phrase. ## What if they ask for something you don't do?

Say so plainly and offer what you do: "That's not something I do on calls, but I'm happy to help with…" If they push, end the call. You can block and report from inside every call, nothing is recorded, and hello.fan has no adult content, ever. Our [boundaries guide](https://paidchatplatform.com/blog/creator-boundaries-on-paid-calls/) has the exact phrases.

## What should you do after the call?

- **Write two lines in your notes**: their name, what they wanted, what you suggested. Next time, you'll remember.

- **Answer any Super Hello** (a gift with a private note) they send afterwards — you get one reply, so make it personal.

- **If they want more**, point them to a booked session or a weekly slot.

## The short version

Name, thanks, "what would make this useful?", a quick win, a calm time check, a summary and a next step. Practise once with a friend, then take your first real call. If you haven't set up a page yet, it's free and takes a minute or two — and creators keep up to 70% of what fans pay.
