# Tutors and coaches: teach online, paid by the minute

Teaching By the PaidChatPlatform team September 18, 2026 6 min read

Online teaching marketplaces were built for one format: a fixed lesson booked ahead. Real students don't always work like that. Some want a 45-minute lesson every Tuesday; some want five minutes to check a sentence before an interview.

## Three formats, one page

- **Instant calls** — when you're online, a student rings you and pays by the minute. Perfect for quick questions and conversation practice.

- **Booked lessons** — a fixed length and price, paid up front, with reminders for both of you.

- **Weekly sessions** — a student picks the same times every week; each lesson is booked and paid automatically.

On [hello.fan](https://hello.fan/for-creators?utm_source=paidchatplatform.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=blog-tutors-teach-online-by-the-minute&utm_content=inline) all three live on one page, and your working hours double as your booking calendar.

## Language tutors: live subtitles change the game

Beginners can switch on live translated subtitles while you speak your target language — a gentle bridge between "I understand nothing" and real immersion. Text chat is translated too, with the original one tap away.

## Music teachers

Video calls with a fair per-minute price make quick fixes easy: "show me that strumming pattern" is a three-minute call. Longer lessons go on the calendar.

## Coaches

Fitness, career and life coaches use booked sessions for the plan and short calls for accountability check-ins between them.

## Practical tips

- Offer a short "trial" booking so new students can meet you.

- Turn on weekly sessions for your regular students — it removes the admin from your week.

- Go online between lessons; spare minutes become paid minutes.
